My Acne Skincare Remedies – Endometriosis & Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

My Acne Skincare Remedies - Endometriosis & Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Endometriosis & Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome always added to my acne woes, but here’s what I did to improve the condition of my skin.

If in case you missed it, I’ve explained the extent of my acne in my previous post in which I share details of the psychological impact of having severely painful acne on my back, arms and face had on me.

Age 11 to 19 were the worst and although, at the time it didn’t feel so but there was progress in the quality of my skin especially because I remained persistent with the remedy I’m going to share here.

My Natural Skincare Remedies for Acne Caused by Endometriosis, PCOS & Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Age 12, as acne on my back and arms became bigger and more painful, my mum brought out her beauty book that listed all sorts of remedies.

It was all going to be an experiment with nothing to lose.

Body & Face Pack

Ingredients:

– Fullers Earth (multani mitti) – 10 tablespoons (Buy from US Amazon | India)
– Sandalwood Powder (chandan) – 5 tablespoons (Buy from US Amazon | India)
– Turmeric (haldi) – 1/2 teaspoon (Buy from US Amazon | India)
– Rose Water (you can use regular water just in case you can’t get rose water) – enough to make a paste like consistency (Buy from US Amazon | India)

Later on I added two more ingredients to this list. To know why then read on, but here are the two additions:

– Honey – 1/2 teaspoon
– Lemon – a squeeze

Directions:

– mix the three dry ingredients first, the fullers earth, sandalwood powder and the turmeric. Once it’s nicely mixed up, slowly add rose water – enough to make it into a paste like consistency.

– apply on the affected areas. Leave on for 20 mins or until the paste has dried up on the skin then wash off with cool water. Cool water will close any open pores. Do not leave it on too long after it has dried as it may dry the skin more than needed.

My Acne Skincare Remedies - Endometriosis & Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

I would attempt to do this twice a week – although it was tough considering I had school and homework to do, I had endometriosis pains too or some new injury to deal with so sometimes I would fall off the routine but this does require consistency because every bit of acne is at a different phase so the skin constantly needs this aid.

Over time, as my skin appeared to improve, I added a bit of lemon and recently, I also added some honey.

Yes, I still apply this pack, but not on my back or arms anymore but I do on my face and neck.

Also, I’ve noticed that people tend to apply face packs on just their face and leave our their neck – I always apply my face packs on the neck as well – your skin tone tends to remain even by doing so.

Despite my back clearing up, the condition of my skin improving, which did take well over 10 years to happen – I find that it’s important to maintain what I have achieved because I still have endometriosis, I still deal with the scarring and slow healing because of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome… in fact I still deal with acne on my face.

In case you’re wondering as to why those ingredients work – here are its properties.

Fullers Earth

– is a great skin cleanser and has magnesium chloride which helps to get rid of acne and reduce its occurrence.

I have found that it can be incredibly drying so I wouldn’t use it on the entire affected area everyday, but sometimes I have applied this mixture only on the acne.

Like a spot remedy. (Buy from US Amazon | India)

Sandalwood

– has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties so it helps to keep the skin clean and calm the acne down which would very easily swell up – especially on my back and arms.

It’s also a de-tanner. The scarring and black spots took quite a while to go and this is where the sandalwood powder kept aiding this issue. (Buy from US Amazon | India)

Turmeric

– is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. We only use a pinch of this as it can leave a yellow tinge on the skin, plus we do only need very little of it since a small amount of turmeric is very potent. (Buy from US Amazon | India)

Rose Water

– controls excess oil, hydrates the skin and is an anti-inflammatory which reduces the skin’s redness, helps tone the skin and even keeps the pores clean. An additional benefit is… rose water is known to be anti-ageing too – now who wouldn’t want that?! (Buy from US Amazon | India)

Lemon Juice

– is a great astringent, an anti-fungal and a de-tanner. For me, in this pack, de-tanning and scar reduction was the reason to add lemon. I couldn’t do this right at the beginning of the treatment, but a couple of years into applying the pack, when I felt my skin could take the slight sting of lemon juice, I gave it a go.

Honey

– also has antioxidants, is antiseptic and has antibacterial properties, but I’ve added it to this pack because it softens my skin. (Buy from US Amazon | India)

This anti-acne face/body pack was quite drying which is necessary for acne causing over-active oil glands, but the dryness would cause me this weird dry itch (lasting a few minutes after washing it off) but I didn’t know that honey could help that feeling.

So, recently, I added honey and it’s proven to be a perfect addition and has now finally completed my anti-acne pack.

  1. This sounds like a great concoction! I love how you explain the reason for each ingredient. I don’t use facials much (only when my daughter and I do it together), but she loves them and does them regularly. I’m going to try this one with her:)

  2. It’s nice and interesting that you try natural try that you make on your own for certain health issues! I hope to hear more about these!

  3. Wonderful list and great recipe too. I love making my own rose water with organic roses. Smells divine and it’s fun to make too.
