DIY – Rice Flour & Saffron Face Mask for Even Skin Tone | Chronic Illness Skincare

Today’s diy face pack is probably one of my most favourite smelling masks plus it helps to even out my skin tone, exfoliates and soothes. So firstly kesar is saffron and if you’ve ever had kesar-pista ice cream – pista is pistachios and you like this combination of flavours – then you’ll know what I mean. And if you’ve never had it before, then you should try this mask to know what I mean! The scent isn’t overpowering at all – well for me it isn’t and thankfully it doesn’t trigger a migraine for me like some other scents do. But we’re all different, so…

Please remember that I am not a certified dermatologist or a medical professional in any capacity. I am a patient who deals with various medical conditions and I just wanna share what has worked for me. It’s always best to check with a medical professional before you decide to try anything I share. Also, a lot of these DIY recipes are things my mum has taught me about skin and hair care and I’m trying to pass that on.

The Ingredients & How to Make it:

There are just four ingredients to this pack..

The first is rice flour, which is brilliant for sensitive skin especially because it’s an anti-inflammatory. The really tiny particles of the rice flour smoothen the skin through gentle exfoliation. It helps to reduce excess oil and it regenerates skin cells, helping to tighten the skin!

That’s a lot of benefits in this 1 teaspoon of rice flour I’m going to use, to which I’ll be adding just a pinch of turmeric powder.

As you may be aware, turmeric helps to heal the skin – especially skin that has acne, eczema and psoriasis. It’s other benefits are that it’s an anti-inflammatory and an antibacterial ingredient.

Now to add the ingredient that reminds me of an ice cream I love – kesar, also known as saffron. We just need to add 2 to 3 strands of this saffron that has been soaked in a drop of water for the past 5 minutes. But why are we using saffron – and now it’s not just for me to enjoy the scent of an ice cream, but because it de-tans and helps even-out skin tone which improves the quality of our skin.

So we mix all these ingredients properly and then add 1.5 to 2 teaspoons of almond milk. Please stir after each teaspoon so that you are not putting too much milk. You can add any milk of choice, but the reason I use almond milk is that, 1. I have it in my fridge! and 2, it’s really good for sensitive skin – it moisturises, rejuvenates because of its Vitamin E and helps clean the skin.

So once it’s all nicely mixed, we ideally should let this mask sit for 10 minutes at the very minimum because it gives time for the saffron to fuse well with the other ingredients.

Once it’s all ready, apply on a clean face – O’ and don’t forget to apply it on your neck as well!

Now if this was on my face, I would have close my eyes, relax and enjoyed the smell of this then after 20 minutes, I’d splash some cool water and gently rub off the mask – this would help to exfoliate and polish the skin – and it’s not rough at all, it’s very relaxing and it’ll come off really easily as well.

End with a quick splash of cool water and pat dry – that’s all that I would do.

But, if it feels too dry for you – based on obviously your weather conditions and where you are and your skin where you apply a face oil or a light face cream of your choice.

You can apply this whenever you’d like, but ideally anywhere from one to three times a week will be beneficial, but if you’re not applying any other face pack then applying this four times a week would be better!

Quick Ingredients Recap:

Rice flour: 1 teaspoon
Turmeric: a pinch
Saffron: 3 strands soaked in 1 teaspoon of water
Milk of choice: 1.5 to 2 teaspoons
