Skin & Hair Care – Student of the Land

Being chronically sick, you learn to respect what you have, you learn to take care of what you have. I give the same love and respect to my hair and skin through DIY homemade recipes. So here’s a resource list of all my homemade recipes that help me, but first a bit of background about my story and why I call it ‘Student of the Land’, with the tagline, ‘apothecary for the chronically strong’.

If you wish to watch a quick video instead, then you can here and then skip straight to a list of all the recipes:

I was around 12 when my skin started to go bad from acne triggered by PCOS and endometriosis – my acne was painful. Not just on my face but my back and arms. I’d cry while wearing my school shirt, then a sweater and a school blazer went on top to add to my pains.

No one, other than my mum knew I was going through this.

With nothing really easing my pains, my mum came to the rescue. We looked into this book she loved and took out ingredients that we had at home and made a face pack for me – which I also applied on my back and arms quite religiously.

It worked.

And in those years, we didn’t know when, but we started creating many such skin and hair care recipes for ourselves.

But I always thought that one day I will share everything I have learnt from my mum in this DIY homemade skin and hair care journey – a 24 year journey, and finally I’m doing that now!

I’ve been writing all the recipes down in one place, because I want to share this with all of you and pay a tribute to my mum for what she’s taught me and to all the people like me and my mum who struggle with their chronic conditions.

Which is why, now it’s time these recipes went on my blog and my YouTube channel.

I am so proud to share this DIY homemade skin and hair care section called ‘Student of the Land’ – with the tagline: ‘apothecary for the chronically strong’.

Before I am asked, why the name ‘Student of the Land’? And why the tagline ‘apothecary for the chronically strong’?

I think I should explain.

So, all the ingredients mum has taught me to use are things which come from nature, earth, our land and because we’re not medical professionals, we’ve always considered ourselves to be students who are willing to explore and learn and help ourselves.

Which is why, the name, Student of the Land.

As for the tagline, ‘apothecary for the chronically strong’. Mum and I both have various chronic conditions. And we understand how tough various medical conditions and reactions of medications can be on the hair and skin, but we also know how strong people with chronic conditions are so these recipes that I’m going to share have always kept people like us in mind, which is why, the tagline, ‘apothecary for the chronically strong’.

Now, this does not mean these homemade DIY recipes are not for those who don’t have chronic conditions, but I am going to be a bit partial to those who do have chronic conditions.

It’s only fair, right?

So I hope to have you along with me on this journey of sharing!
